OLYMPIA, WA – FC Olympia and the Oly Soccer Foundation this winter continued building one of the region’s most unique pathways for soccer players via free clinics, pro-player outreach camps and youth soccer nights led by the Artesians.

Founded in 2014 first as an indoor pro-am men’s team FC Olympia, formerly “Oly Town” has blossomed into outdoor soccer, youth soccer and USL franchise soccer providing space and education to the next generation of Olympia-area soccer players.

USL Youth Clinic Kicks off Winter

The winter outreach began with Friday nights at Capital High School where FC Olympia coaches and players worked directly with young athletes focusing on skill development, competition and mentorship from players who are currently competing in FC Olympia path to pro franchises.

For many participants it was their first opportunity to train alongside collegiate athletes who have progressed through the same local soccer ecosystem. Coaches that played at regional colleges like Peyton Rhyne (TESC), Brooke Streeter (SMU), Calvin Boyal (SMU), Dominic Moreno (Highline), Tanner Fricke (CHS) and Connor Leistiko (SMU).

Pro Mariah Lee Girls Soccer Camp

Another highlight of the outreach efforts is the FC Olympia inspired Mariah Lee Pro Girls Soccer Camp led by professional player Mariah Lee of Vancouver Rise FC, Reign FC and NCAA Stanford National Champion.

Lee’s career includes 7 years of pro soccer across the globe as well as experience with FC Olympia’s USL W League program giving young female players an opportunity to learn directly from a strong, professional female role model.

FORMA Construction Game Nights

Following the winter clinic the Oly Soccer Foundation launched an eight-week training and gameplay series at Olympia High School creating consistent space to play games over the cold, dark months under the lights of Ingersoll Stadium.

The weekly sessions blended technical training but mostly match play.

Club President Ryan Perkins emphasized the importance of creating an 8-week game play segment that compliments kid’s regional club teams, rec teams and one on one clinical training.

“We are proponents of players getting mixed age game play as well as coed playing experiences so levels of play can increase for individuals

Playing with older kid’s sets kid’s up for success in increasing their physicality, seeing the game from a more mature perspective and learning from older peers at FC Olympia youth soccer events”

Gala Fundraiser Funds Free Clinic in April

The impact of these programs is made possible through the Oly Soccer Foundation which helps generate funding for scholarships, discounted programs and free community events.

Funds raised through the gala allow FC Olympia to remove financial barriers for young players and ensure that participation in camps and training programs remains accessible. This includes a free community clinic April 25th at the Regional Athletic Complex.

The clinic will be taught by USL coaches and current players offering young athletes the chance to train with players competing and coaching at the highest levels of soccer in the United States.

Information can be found at fcoly.com as well as ways for local businesses to sponsor future free clinics.
