Memorial Weekend Recap: Ginny Lackey Hat Trick in USL W Win, USL Men Lose Nailbiter

The no. 12 nationally ranked Artesian USL W squad headed to Maple Valley, Washington for their first ever meeting with USL W newcomer Bigfoot FC Sunday and didn’t waste time getting on the board. Ginny Lackey was able to intercept a pass in the second minute from Bigfoot keeper Murphy Sheaff and slotted the first goal of the game home. Faith Nguyen (Texas Tech) started in goal but was mostly untested.

FC Olympia would go on a second half melee with another two goals from Ginny Lackey (James Madison University) to close in on her hat trick meanwhile Manon Lebargy (Hofstra) scored two goals. Shu Ohba (Ole Miss) would sub into the second half for Nguyen and helped secure the shutout with two saves.

The win puts FC Olympia square into first place in the USL W League with 6 points and a +11 goal differential in just two matches. The women return to action in Olympia, Washington Saturday May 31st at 6:00PM.

The Artesian men on Friday hosted USL League Two northerly foe Snohomish United. The result was a tight 2-1 loss that featured a goal from Alex Coope (PLU) in the 48th minute. The second half resurgence was a nailbiter as Artesian attacks created several offensive buildups but couldn’t muster the tying goal.

The first half rout proved to be too much as Edgar Leon and Carter Gay both put Snohomish goals on Artesian starting goalkeeper Jesus Rondon and the defense for an early lead that couldn’t be recovered from.

The Artesian loss caps the early homestand of the 2025 USL League Two campaign before a long 5-game road series before returning to Olympia on June 21st. The FC Olympia men are on the road in Portland, Oregon Friday May 30th.
