USL W League FC Olympia’s women’s side suffered its first ever home defeat in league play falling 6-0 to Snohomish United. The visitors featured a strong newcomer to the league with a roster heavily connected to a nationally acclaimed U19 ECNL women’s program consisting of over a dozen players reporting to NCAA Division I programs across the country this summer.

There’s always a first step to any season and yesterday was ours where we had a group of players that came together for the first time actually meeting each other Saturday before kick and we had to get somewhat coordinated fast to go out and play against a team that had a level of regular consistency, continuity in a very high-level youth team with many division one commits.” -Head Coach Seth Spidahl

Our challenge was to basically take a group of brand new players that have never played with each other and try to go be competitive against a highly functioning team. They gave give it their best effort and I feel like we had a good opening 15 to 20 minutes of some possession and had a very good first 30 minutes in the second half where we were defensively more solid then had a bad spell of five minutes where we gave up three goals.” -Head Coach Seth Spidahl

We’ll continue to get better and improve as more players enter back into The FC Olympia’s USL W team from their colleges for the summer and I’m confident we’ll keep working hard and get better and improved game by game, GO OLY!” -Head Coach Seth Spidahl

Saturday’s USL W outcome also displays a growing level of competition within the USL W structure especially in the Northwest Division that FC Olympia has won three years in a row. Newcomers Snohomish United (Crossfire) and the Portland Cherry Bombs are new additions to the division. Next match is Friday against last years second place finisher Salmon Bay FC (Ballard FC Affiliate).

Salmon Bay player announcements features over two dozen former FC Olympia USL W players and should be a unique homecoming next Friday night. That’s a 5:30PM kickoff at Well 80 Pitch in Olympia, WA on Friday May 15th. Tickets at www.fcoly.com.
